Water treatment solutions that enhance your quality of life

Water. It sustains all life. Every second grader knows this, yet how often do we stop to think about it? We expect the water we drink, cook with, and bathe in to be clean and pure. We certainly don’t expect it to harm us or make our lives difficult. And we don’t need it on our list of worries.

Based in northern California, Beebe’s Water Systems has been protecting families with simple and elegant clean-water solutions for more than three decades. We’ve seen for ourselves the dramatic impact water quality can have on a family or community. Making sure our customers have the water they expect and deserve is what we live for.

Water that tastes good and is safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, and cleaning.

What could be simpler? Unfortunately, these days, clean water isn’t guaranteed. Depending on the source of the water supply and the quality of the water treatment provided, a broad range of impurities and contaminants may exist in our water.

You know intuitively how water is supposed to be. You can see, feel, and taste when something is wrong. But you may not know what the culprit is. Let’s look at some of the reasons water quality can degrade.

Symptoms include:

A strange or unpleasant scent

Fresh water is odorless. If you’re getting a whiff of sulfur (what many call a “rotten egg smell”) in your cold or hot water, you probably have hydrogen sulfide in your water. This odor can be associated with cold water or with hot water only. A musty or vaguely fishy odor can be caused by various species of algae or decaying flora. Odors in water can also be caused by minerals such as iron and sulphur.

An unusual or unpleasant taste

Water is supposed to taste clean. It’s practically the definition of clean. When water takes on an odd or unpleasant taste, it’s usually due to metallic compounds such as iron, manganese, or copper. The reason can also be traced to the improper use of chemicals in prior water treatments. Finally, as with an odor, decaying flora can also make for an unpleasant taste in your water.

Rust stains in your tubs, sinks, and washing machine

Annoying rust rings, trails, or stains in tubs, sinks, and/or washing machines are caused by ferrous iron in the water. In this case, laundry and ice cubes take on a yellowish tinge. Too much iron in the water can also leave a metallic taste in your mouth, or give your tea or coffee an unusual grey or black tinge. Once ferrous iron is exposed to air, it converts to ferric iron, which causes the orange rusty color stains.

Thick, scaly film in the tub and shower

Ah, the classic problems of hard water. In addition to a build-up in tubs and showers, hard water can stiffen laundry, spot your glassware, and leave your fresh-washed hair dull or sticky. It also ruins your appliances and can even raise your energy bills as your water heater and other appliances struggle with calcium, magnesium, and iron residues that cause hard water.

A combination of issues

In most cases, homes encounter a combination of these issues. That’s why a single, out-of-the-box solution will fall short of solving your problems. If you want to do it right and rest easy, you’ll want to approach the problem systematically and derive a solution that matches your particular set of issues.

The first step is to have your water tested by an expert to learn what's in it. Then, find a reputable, respected partner who can help you craft the right water treatment solution.

A solution can include some or all of these approaches:

Scents/Odors

There can be several causes for odors in water, from mineral composition to a breakdown of bacteria. A general water analysis can help you understand the symptoms and identify a successful solution. The solution can be as simple as activated carbon, oxidation or a combination of both. The water tells the story.

Taste/ Flavor

Objectionable flavors of water can be difficult to identify. Each person's sensitivities are different. It’s not uncommon for only one family member to identify an objectionable flavor. A complete water analysis paired with decades of experience listening to customer concerns make a permanent solution possible. As with the solution for odors, activated carbon and oxidation can help, but often a combination of treatment techniques are required.

Rusty Stains

Probably the most common problem is discoloring red stains. Iron! The difficulty with treating iron is identifying how it’s getting into the water. Without getting too deep into chemistry, it’s important to understand what other elements are bonding with the iron. Through the water analysis, the bonds can be identified and a solution determined. Oxidation, alkalinity adjustment, filtration, or ion exchange can all be employed to solve the problem. Experience will tell us which is the right one.

Scale/hardness

Simple hardness scale is easily remedied by an ion exchange technology commonly called a water softener. However, an incomplete understanding of the water quality may lead to only a partial treatment. We often see cases of incomplete treatment with self-diagnosis. Understanding the scope of the problem and matching it is key to protecting the home and the environment.

All of the above and then some….

Water quality problems are seldom if ever discovered by themselves. Beyond the common issues, many other less common problems often exist. For example, acidic water can prevent the easy filtration of iron and lead to the corrosion of a home’s copper plumbing.

A proven track record of performance and reliability

We believe everyone has a right to clean, healthy water, and we know how to make that happen. Having supported thousands of families in their quest for clean water, we know what works and what doesn’t, and we haven’t wavered from that mission for over three decades. It’s what we do. It’s what we love.

We’ve seen it all and can identify even complicated, layered problems quickly and propose an elegant solution that matches your budget and stands the test of time. We take the time to make sure you understand all the factors and implications, as well as the best way to solve the issue.

We get to the heart of the problem with a customized solution that just works. In other words, your return on investment is profoundly greater when you go with Beebe’s than when you opt for a “cheaper” solution that peters out eighteen months later. We believe in doing it right the first time.

Let’s identify the problem and get to work designing and building a solution that ensures the best water possible for your home and family.
